Borders Books & Music Stores Nationwide Celebrate Classical Music During April; Discover the Music of Featured Artist Hayley Westenra

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2004--Borders Books & Music(R) stores celebrate classical music during the month of April. Borders stores nationwide are highlighting an unparalleled selection of classical music recordings and introducing customers to a new voice in classical music, Hayley Westenra, whose debut album "Pure" from Decca Records goes on sale Tuesday, April 6.

Peter Faricy, vice president of multimedia for the book and music retailer, and his staff of music buyers are excited to introduce customers to 16-year-old singing sensation Westenra. "Hayley is a natural. Her voice is angelic and 'Pure' is sure to be a best-selling title for us." Westenra's CD will be available for previewing on Borders in-store digital listening stations throughout the month. In addition, Borders customers who access T-Mobile HotSpot WiFi wireless Internet service at a Borders HotSpot location will have the ability to view the artist's music video, "Wuthering Heights," and samples of tracks from the CD.

As well as featuring Westenra, Borders celebration of classical music includes:

-- A "Create a Spring Quartet" Buy 3 Get the 4th Free (least expensive CD is free) offer on all classical music CDs, including "Pure"

-- A focus on a wide selection of classical recordings for both the novice and the aficionado

-- A Symphony Benefit Weekend April 23-25 in the Chicago, Atlanta, Indianapolis and Detroit markets benefiting a symphony orchestra in each of those cities

"Classical music is among Borders top selling music genres. Our customers know we offer the best selection possible--from award-winning performances of music by Mozart and Beethoven to modern day composers like Arvo Part and John Rutter--and we've recently moved the classical category to a more prominent location in the music section to cater to those enthusiastic customers," says Faricy.

"Our music sellers enjoy introducing people to our Classical Essentials line, the new and notable CDs of featured artists or their own personal favorites."
